Ahmal's of 14/15 Shaban [Shab e Barat]  

15th Sha'aban Night Aa'maal

The Holy Prophet (S.A.) had said that during the night of 15^th Shaba'an the Almighty takes decisions in the matters of sustenance, life and death and welfare of the people. Next to the “Night of Qadr” the night of 15^th Sha’baan is the most auspicious night (also known as “night of Baraat”). According to the Imam Muhammad bin Ali Al Baqir (as.) and Jaa’far bin Muhammad As Sadiq (as.) the Almighty Allah has promised to fulfill every legitimate desire put forward to Him tonight. During this night Allah (swt) bestows on HIS people from HIS bounty & forgives them out of HIS grace & generosity .Of the blessings of this night is that ,at the dawn of this night ,was born the Leader of the Time Imam e Zamana (atfs) in Samarra -Iraq in the yr 255 AH .

Ahadith in the book Iqbalul A‘mal  "Therefore, stay awake this night in prayer and worship and encourage your Ummah to also keep awake this night in order to get closer to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) through their actions since this is a noble night. I have come to you while all the Angels in the Heavens are together with one another some are glorifying Allah, others are in Ruku‘, others are in the state of Sujud while others are busy in the Dhikr of Allah. This is a night in which not a single person supplicates to Allah except that his prayers are accepted. Nobody asks for a single thing on this night except that it will be given to him. No one asks Allah for forgiveness except that his sins are wiped out. No one turns in repentance to Allah except that He accepts their repentance. Whoever is deprived of the goodness of this night has definitely been deprived of something great."

Almighty Allah has chosen this night for the Ahl al-Bayt, in the same way as He has chosen the Qadr Night for our Prophet—peace be upon him and his Family.

The first thing that that Salik (the Wayfarer on the path towards Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He) must perform on this night is that he must remove the material pleasures and enjoyments of this world from in front of his eyes (and from his heart) and in order to make the most of this special night and ensure that all of his actions are performed properly, he must think to himself that tonight  is his last night on this Earth (meaning that tomorrow he shall die) and thus, he will no longer have the opportunity to perform any more good deeds and that tomorrow the Day of Judgment will take place.

Attn!(12th Imam) Hazrat Imam Zamana a.s Says (Order), Why you do not Read Ziyarat e Ashura Daily Ashura ! Ashura ! Ashura ! and Pray for My Reappearance daily. Hazrat Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s) narrates that “one who recites at Fajar Dua e Ahad (Promise with Last Imam) for 40 mornings;(read daily till end of death) he will be accounted amongst the helpers of Hazrat Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s). And if he happens to die before the reappearance of Hazrat Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s), Allah will raise him up from his rave so that he may assist the holy Imam (a.t.f.s). For every word that he recites in this supplication, Allah will grant him 1000 good deeds and will erase from his scroll of deeds 1000 sins”.

(Tasbeeh in Arabic) "ALLAAHUMAL-A’N QATALATAL H’USAYN WA AWLAADIHEE WA AS’HAABIHEE "
(Tasbeeh in Easy Urdu Translation) "Hazrat Imam Hussain a.s Aur Un-kaa Ashaab kaa Qatloo pur Lant ba Shammar!"
Read must This Tasbeeh 100 times or more (un-limited) daily after every Namaz, you can read in any Language which you feel easy.

• It is Narrated by Hazrat Imam Ali Ibn e Abi Talib a.s says , the person who kept fast 13th of Shaban get the rewards of 30,000 years of fast , who kept fast 14th of Shaban get the rewards of 10,000 years of fast , who kept fast 15th of Shaban get the rewards of 100000 / 1 Lacks years of fast.

• Perform Ghusl (Take Bath) (Do neat Gusal e Tah-rat) with the thought of washing away sins & as if its your last Ghusl (Do before Magrib)

• Gave Sad-ka (Charity) as much as you can in the Name of your Parents , Children & Family & X-family Members & Fore fathers.

• Read Nafals as much also ok.  There is Huge benefits of Nafals.

• Read 10 Rakat's Namaz (Nemia e Shaban) like that, (Do neat I read Namaz Nemia e Shaban Qur bat illah) read like that , In First Rakat read Saroot Al-Hamad 1 time & 10 times Sarrot Iklas , read like that in both 2 rakat's than says, Salam and complete it (Note!) complete your 10 Rakat's like that ok. ( you can read 2-2 rakat's)

• Hazrat Imam Jaffar Sadiq a.s says, The best Dua in Month of Shaban is Estagfar , The person who read daily 70 times Estagfar (He do 1000 times Estagfar) as he do in other months. Recite 100 times 'Astaghfirullah Rabi Watub ahlah'  tasbih with attention to seeking forgiveness (Or read Unlimited more than 1000 times)

• Hazrat Imam Muhammad Baqir a.s says , The Person who read on this Shab (Night) , (Read Tasbeeh like that )100 times SUBH’AAN ALLAAH  , 100 times ALH'AMD-UL-ILLAH  , 100 times  ALLA HU AKBAR , 100 times LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAH , & Allah Talah forgave his all Sin's which he did in past & fulfill his wishes/desires of World & Last.

• Recite Dua Kumayl  for Seeking forgiveness. In Hadith, it is mentioned that Kumayl ibn Ziyad said, "I was sitting with my master Amir al-Mominin ‘Ali ibn Abu Talib (peace be upon him) in Masjid Kufa and a group of companions were also sitting with him. One of them asked him what the meaning of the verse Whereupon every wise command is made clear. (Surah ad-Dukhan, Verse 4) The Imam (peace be upon him) replied, The meaning of this is the night of the 15th of Sha‘ban. I swear by the One who holds the life of ‘Ali in His hands there is not a single servant of Allah except that all the good and bad that will reach him in this year is divided up and handed out on the 15th of Sha‘ban and this good and bad will continue from the 15th of Sha‘ban until the next year on the same night. The servant who stays up this night and recites the Du‘a of Khidr will have his supplications answered." This dua taught to Kumayl ibn Ziad is now known popularly as Dua e Kumayl.

• Hadith-ka-Sa Click it ->hadith ka sa , Dua e Tawseel ,Saroot Yaseen , Saroot Rehman ,Quran e Majeed as much etc.

• Read Dua e E-Ahad (Promise) with Hazrat Imam Zamana a.s .(to become Imam's Helper). Dua e Ahad  (Read must at Fajar daily)

• Recite 100 times : سُبْحَانَ اللّهوَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهوَلا إلهَ إلاَّ اللّهوَاللّهُ أَكْبَر    

• Hazrat Imam Zain ul Abideen a.s says, The Person who wish 1,24,000 Anbiya Roha's Shake Hand with him , So he should read Ziyarat Hazrat Imam e Hussain a.s on 15 Shaban. It has too reward. (Read on the Roof or Lawn).  Looking at the sky recite:
  ”Assalamo alayka ya a’baa abdillahey, assalamo alayka warehmatullahey wa barakatohu”

  As a short salutation ,one may go to the terrace/elevated place , look left , right & towards the  sky & recite :- Peace be upon you; O Aba-`Abdullah!  -Assalmo Alalika Ya aba Abdillah -  السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللّه، Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.  - Asalaamo alikum wa rahmatullah e wabarakatoh -  السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّه وَبَرَكَاتُهُ.

• Read Ziyarat Hazrat Hujat Al Qaim Saib ur Amer Imam Muhammad Mahdi a.s with 2 rakat. On 15th Shaban Day Recommended to recite Ziarat of Imam Mehdi (atfs) , keep fast & Also recite Ziarat Jameah

• Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w says , The Person who read 12 Rakat's Namaz e Nafal (you can read 2-2  rakat's) Allah Talah rewards him 12,000 Shaheeds , Sawoob written 12 years of (Ibdat)& He will Pak from Sin's as he Born today & 80 days there is no Sin written.

• Hazrat Imama Ali ibn e Abi Talib a.s says , The Person who read 14 Rakat's Namaz e Nafal (you can read 2-2 rakat's) after ending of Nafals, He should read 14 times Saroot Al-Hamad , 14 times Saroot Iklas , 14 times Saroot Falak(113), 14 times Saroot Nas(114) & Read 1 time Ayat ul Kursi , Read this Ayat 1 time "Laqad Jawo Kum Rasoolo Min An-fasakum." & The Person who read this Namaz , Allah Talah rewards him 20 years of Maqbool (High) Roza's & 20 years of Maqbool (High) Hajj will be written in His Ahmal's.

• Hazrat Bibi Syeda Fatima tu Zhara a.s says, The Person who read 8 Rakat Namaz e Nafal (you can read 2-2 rakat's) & gave Had-ia to Me & I will not enter in Paradise till , that I will forgave him all his sins. Read Nafal like that , Read Saroot Al-Hamad 1 time & read Saroot Iklas 11 times in every Rakat & read like that in every rakat. (complete your like that 8 rakat)

• Recite 100 times 'Astaghfirullah '  with attention to seeking forgiveness.

• Recite Ziarat of Imam Husayn(as)  & Special Ziarat of Imam Husayn(as) for 15  Shaban as all the Prophets & Angels visit the Imam on this night.

• One must seek closeness to Imam al-Zaman (may Allah hasten his return) the Hujjah of our Time; Wali al-‘Amr; the Greatest Secret (of Allah); the possessor of the divine Occultation and inviter to the message of the Prophet; the Successor of all Prophets and the Successor of all Successors of the Prophets; the physical manifestation of the Justice of Allah; the Flag of Guidance; the one who will destroy all corruption and oppression and those who oppose the truth; the destroyer of the enemies of Allah - the misguided and the disbelievers; the one who will purify the Earth of deviation and worship of the self; the greatest sign of Allah; the one who acts as the connection between the heavens and the earth; our Imam, Master and Qaim, al-Mahdi - may my soul and the souls of all of those in the universe be sacrificed for him. • On this night, one should also be busy in Ziyarat, Munajat and asking our desires and complaining of our separation from our awaited Imam. One may write an Ariza(Letter)to Imam as well .Our supplications and Salat should always be performed with the thought in the back of our minds of the distance from our leader however we should also keep in mind and be thankful to Allah swt that we are blessed with such a guide. Recite the duas relating to the Imam (atfs)  Dua Nudba , Ziarat e Imam-Isteghasa & Ziarat Aale Yasin of the Ahlulbayt(as).

• According to the Holy Prophet it is desirable to pray a 100 Raka’t Namaaz tonight, in 50 sets of 2 Raka’t each as follows: In every Raka’t, after the recitation of Soorah Al Faatih’ah, recite Soorah Al Ikhlaas 10 times. After the Namaz recite the following:  (i) Aayatul Kursee  10 times  ii) Al Faatih’ah 10 times iii) Subh’aanallah 100 times

It is highly desirable to observe fast on 13, 14 and 15, have a bath each day, and give alms in the way of Allah.

• The Holy Prophet (S.A.) used to recite the following in Sajdah tonight after the Tahajjud prayers: [It can also be recited tonight after praying a 10 Rak—a’t Namaaz in 5 sets of 2 Rak—a’t each; in each Rak—a’t recite Soorah Al Faatih’ah once, and Soorah Al Ikhlaas 10 times]:

• According to Imam Jaa’—far As Saadiq (A.S.) It is highly desirable to pray a 6 Rak—a’t Namaaz tonight, in 3 sets of 2 Rak—a’t each, as under:In every Rak—a’t recite Soorah Al Faatih’ah, Soorah Yaa Seeen and Soorah Al Mulk.

• Recite the following tonight and every night during the rest of the month. "O Allah if Thou has forgiven us during the previous days of Shaban, then please be merciful to us in the days now follow."

• Hazrat Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) and Hazrat Imam Jafar as_Sadiq (a.s) used to pray a 4 Rak’at Namaz as under: In each Raka’t, recite Surah Al Fatihah 100 times and Surah Al Ikhlass 100 times.
  After the salam recite the dua’a on page 308 of “Supplications Prayers & Ziarats Call on Me and I answer you.”

• After Namaaz E Isha, offer 2 Rak’at Namaz as follows : 1st Rakaat, recite Surah Al Fatihah and Surah Al Kaafiroon. 2nd Rakaat, recite Surah Al Fatihah and Surah AL Ikhlas. After the namaaz, recite Tasbeeh e Zehra (34: Allah o Akbar, 33: Alhumdolillah 33: SubhanAllah) and dua’a page 309 of “Supplications Prayers & Ziarats Call on Me and I answer you.”

• Prostrate in Sajadah and recite :
  20 times : Ya Rabee,
  7 times : Ya Allah
  7 Times : La Hawla Wa La Quwwata Illa Billah,
  10 Times Ma Sha Allah,
  Once: Allahumma s’alli a’laa Muhammad was aali Muhammad

• After “Nammaz Shifa”, Shaykh Toosi (r.a) and Kafami (r.a) have advised Momins to recite the dua’a on page 312 of “Supplications Prayers & Ziarats Call on Me and I answer you.”.

• After Tahajjud Namaaz, The Holy Prophet (sws) used to recite the dua’a on page 314 of “Supplications Prayers & Ziarats Call on Me and I answer you.” This can also be recited after praying a 10 Raka’at Namaaz in 5 sets of 2 Rak’ats whereby Surah Al Fatihah is recited once and Surah Al Ikhlas is recited 10 times.

•  Put each side of the face to the earth and recite the following: “A’ffartu wajhee fit turaabi wa h’uqqa lee an asjuda laka” ”I put my face on the earth and roll in the dust because it is imposed as a duty that I prostrate myself in adoration before thee”

• According the the Holy Prophet (sws), it is highly desirable to pray a 100 Rak’at Namaaz tonight, in 50 sets of 2 Rak’ats in each prescribed as follows:  In every Rak’at, after the recitation of Surah Al Fatihah, recite Surah AL Ikhlas 10 times.

• After the Namaaz, recite the following: Ayaatul Kursee: 10 times , Al Fatihah: 10 times, Subahaanallah: 100 times .

• According to Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (a.s), it is highly desirable to pray a 6 Rak’at Namaz on this night of the 15^th, in 3 sets of 2 Rak’ats in each, as follows: In each Rak’st recite Surah Al Fatihah, Surah Yaseen and Surah Al Mulk.

• Recite the following tonight and every night during the rest of the month:  “Allaahumma in lam takun ghafarts lanaa feemaa maz’aa min Shaa’baana faghfirlanaa feema baqiya minhu”
  ”O Allah, if Thou has forgotten us during the previous days of Shabaan, then please be merciful to us in the days now to follow.”

• Shaykh Kafamee writes in  “Misbah” to recite Surah Yaseen for the following 3 reasons: Once for long life ,Once for prosperity, Once for safety from misfortune .

• Then recite the following 21 times and do not talk to anyone until the recitation is completed: “Allaahumma innaka a’z’eemun d’u anaatin wa laa t’aaqata lanaa li-h’ukmika”
  "O Allah, verily Thou art Sublime, Patient, gives respite, (because) we do not have the capacity to withstand the conditions that tale effect under Thy authority.” “Yaa Allah” ”O Allah” “Yaa Allah” ’O Allah”  “Yaa Allah” ”O Allah” “Al-Amaan” ”Mercy” ”Al-Amaan” ”Mercy” “Al-Amaam” ”Mercy” “Minat t’aa o’on wal wabaa-I wa soo-il qaz’aaa-I wa shamatatil aa’-daaa-I rabbanak-shif a’nnal a’d’aaba innaa moo-minoona bi-rah’matika yaa arh’amar rah’imeen”
  "(Safety from the) rampant epidemics, accidental death, evil events, and rejoicing of enemies at (our) misfortunes. O our Lord take away from us the pain and torment, truly we believe in Thy Mercy. O the Most Merciful.”  This is the night of glory. The more you pray the better it is, Seek Allah's mercy for yourself and all the momeneen, Staying awake all night and spending that time in Ibadaat (prayers).

• The Holy Prophet (sws) had said that during the nights of the 15^th Shabaan, the Almighty takes decisions in the matters of sustenance, life, death and the welfare of the people. Next to the “Night of Qadr”, the 15^th Shabaan is the most auspicious night (also known as the “Night of Baraat”).

•  According to the Holy Imam Muhammad bin Ali al-Baqir (a.s) and Jafar bin Muhammad as-Sadiq (a.s), the Almighty Allah (swt) has promised to fulfill every legitimate desire put forward to Him in that night.  Imam Jafar bin Muhammad as-Sadiq (a.s.) has said: “Whoso prays during the nights of “Ayyam Bayz”,  in fact, stands at the door of the superabundant favors, bounties and benefits available in these months.”

• It is highly desirable to hold fast on the 13^th, 14^th and 15^th, have a bath each day and give alms in the way of Allah (swt).

  In the nights of “Ayyam Bayz” Momin are instructed to pray a 12 Rak’at namaz as follows: In the night of the 13^th, pray 12 Rak’ats  and recite Surah Al Fatihah, Surah Yaaseen and Surah Al Mulk are recited in each Rak’at.

• In the night of the 14^th, pray 4 Rak’ats in 2 sets of 2 Rak’at, and each set  recite Surah Al Fatihah, Surah Yaaseen and Surah Al Mulk.

• In the night of the 15^th, pray 6 Rak’ats in 3 sets of 2 Rak’ats and in each recite Surah Al Fatihah, Surah Yaaseen and Surah Al Mulk.

• Hazrat Muhammad (sws) that: "When the night of the middle of Shabaan comes, spend the night in prayer and fast the next day for in it Allah t' Allah forgives more sins than the hairs of the goats of the tribe of Kalb."

• Hazrat Prophet Muhammad (sws) has also been quoted as having said: " When the night of the middle of Shabaan comes, Allah descends to the lowest Heaven and says, "Is there anyone begging for forgiveness that I might forgive him? Is there anyone begging for sustenance that I may feed him? Is there any such and such?" And we are told that Allah stays at this lowest heaven ready to accede to our legitimate requests until the break of dawn.”

• “This is Laylat-ul-Barat, this is the fifteenth of Sha’baan, a very great night. In this night you should be attentive in the worship of Allah, for this is the night of accounting. Whichever child is to be born during the coming year is written down on the list on this night, and the name of whoever is going to pass away in the coming year is deleted from the list.”

• For Nikkah According your wish : Read 25 times nad e ali a.s daily after Fajr prayer towards Qiblah & pray the other persons should send proposal to you for your Nikkah .& pray your desires .

• Hazrat Imam Jafer-e-Sadiq (AS) reported that Imam Muhammad Baqir (AS) was asked about the merit and excellence of this night then Imam replied, “ It is one of those nights being bestowed with honour and dignity. In this holy night Allah grants His servants and forgives them with His graciousness, kindness and favour. So try to find out nearness to Allah. In fact this is that glorious night that Allah Almighty swore by Him ‘not to turn back any one empty handed.’
• To present Areeza-e-Hajaat in the bargah of Hazrat Saheb al Asr (ATF) at the time of pre-dawn.

Translation of Dua-e-Ariza

I have written to you O my master, may His mercy and blessing be on you, seeking a favour from you.

I have complained to you for what has happened to me seeking solutions firstly from Allah

and then from you for a matter that has obsessed me.

I am helpless in combating the problem and for that I have resorted to seeking help from Allah and from you.

Knowing the status you have with Allah.

I am confident that you will help me get the solutions to my problems swiftly and that you will intercede on my behalf.

I am helpless and moreover I am sinful:

so help O master and present this problem to Allah and I pray to Him that He will solve this quickly

and grant me victory and success in finding the solution to my problems.

I am not able to carry or bear with it. Although I am responsible for the increase of my sins and

ignorant about my responsibilities (Wajibaats), from Allah which are given to me.

So help me O my master.  Peace be upon you during this time of problems and sorrow.

 presents my prayers to Allah before I compensate and before my enemies engulfs me. For you have shown me your blessings.

So I pray to Allah for great salvation and near victory with calmness from all fears,

 for Allah is most high and does what he wants. Allah is sufficient for me from beginning and in my hopes.

Whatever Allah wish there is neither strength nor any power except in Allah the High, the Great.

 

*When dropping the Ariza in the sea, we normally recite the following,

 addressing Husayn bin Rawh, the 3rd Na’ib of the 12th Imam:

“O Husayn bin Rawh, Salamun Alykum.

I bear witness that you died in the path of Allah and (hence), you are alive and are sustained by Allah.

I am addressing you in your life which you lead with Allah – this is my note and wishes to the master of the Era,

the 12th Imam (AS), so please hand it over to him for you are indeed trustworthy”.

Today, 15^th Shabaan, our Living Imam Muhammad bin Hasan Saahibuz Zamaan (a.s) was born in 256 Hijra.

During the day it is recommended that you do the following:

11)      Pray Namaaz of Salaman Farsi mentioned on pg. 322 of  “Supplications Prayers & Ziyarats Call on Me and I answer you.” , if available. Then recite:

“Ilaahan wah’idan ah’adan fardan s’amadaa lam yattakhid’s’aah’ibatan wa laa waladaa”

“The one true God! Single! Unique! The eternally besought! He did not choose any associate nor a son.”

22)      Recite the Ziyarat of Imam Hussayn (a.s)

33)      Pray 4 Rak’at Namaaz in 2 sets of 2 Rak’ats in each.

44)      After the salam, recite dua on pg. 270 of “Supplications Prayers & Ziyarats Call on Me and I answer you.”

55)      After the sun passes the meridian, take a bath and put on clean clothes.

66)      Go to a very private place where no one can disturb you.

77)      Pray 8 Rak’ats Naafilah of Zuhr prayers in sets of 4 of 2 Rak’ats in each.

88)      Parya Zuhr namaaz.

99)      Pray 2 Rak’at Namaaz and after the salam say 100 times:

“Yaa qaaz’iya h’awwa-ijit’ t’Allibeen”
"O He who decides definitely and satisfies the wants and needs of those who request.”

110)  Pary 8 Rak’at Naffilah of Asr prayers.

In each Rak’at, after the recitation of Surah AL Fatihah, recite Al Ikhlas and Surah Al Kawthar once.
11)  Pray Asr Namaaz.
12)  Sit on your prayer mat and recite:

13)  After completing each of the above recite the dua mentioned on pg. 273 of “Supplications Prayers & Ziyarats Call on Me and I answer you.”.

14)  After this dua, prostrate and put either side of your face on the earth and recite the dua on page 286 of “Supplications Prayers & Ziyarats Call on Me and I answer you.”

If, after the recitation of the dua, your eyes are tearful or even on the edge of tears, your cry for help would have reached your Almighty, insy’Allah.

15)  Finally, some traditions suggest the supplication on page 287 of “Supplications Prayers & Ziyarats Call on Me and I answer you.”, in Sajdah.

May Allah (swt) answer your prayers and supplications on this bright, auspicious day, insy’Allah.

THE EXCELLENCE AND ACTS OF WORSHIP (A’MAAL) FOR THE MONTH OF SHABAAN

Shabaan is a month of high excellence and is dedicated to the Leader of the Prophets (saaw). He used to keep fasts during this month and join it with the month of Ramadhan. He used to say, “Sha’baan is a month dedicated to me. Whoever keeps one fast during my month will definitely go to heaven”.

It has been reported from Imam Ja’far Sadiq (as) that on the commencement of this month, Imam Zainul Abideen (as) would gather his companions and address them, “O my companions, do you know which month this is? It is the month of Shabaan about which the Holy Messenger (saaw) used to say that it is dedicated to him. So keep fasts during this month in the love of your Holy Prophet (saaw) and to attain closeness to your Creator. By Allah in whose hands is my soul, I have heard from my father, Hussein ibn Ali (as), that he had heard from Commander of Faithful (as), that whoever keeps fast during Sha’baan in the love of the Holy Prophet (saaw) and to attain closeness to Allah will become a friend to Allah and on the Day of Judgement will be close to Allah by His grace and Paradise will be assured to him.”

Sheikh Tusi has reported from Safwane Jammal that Imam Ja’far Sadiq (as) asked him to encourage his neighbours and friends to fast in the month of Sha’baan. He asked the Imam if there was any special significance for it, and he replied that when the month commenced, the Holy Messenger (saaw) would command his announcer to proclaim in Medina that the Holy Messenger (saaw) wished them to be aware that Sha’baan was a month dedicated to him and Allah bestows mercy on whosoever associates with him in this month by fasting. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (as) proceeded to report from Commander of Faithful (as) that since hearing the announcement, he never missed any fast during the month of Sha’baan and, Allah willing, hoped not to miss any during the remainder of his life. He added that fasting in the months of Sha’baan and Ramadhan is a means of repentance and pardon from Allah.

Ismail bin Abdul Khaliq has reported that once when he was in the gathering of Imam Ja’far Sadiq (as), the topic of fasts of Sha’baan arose. The Imam proceeded to set out the numerous merits of the fast to the extent that even if a person became liable for unlawful killing, the fasts of the month of Sha’baan would benefit him.

FIRST: say daily seventy times: AS-TAGH-FIRU-LLAHA WA AS’SALLAHUT TAUBATTA

SECOND: say daily seventy times: AS-TAG-FIRU-LLAHAL LAZI LA ILLAHA ILLA HOVAR RAHMANUR RAHEEMUL HAYYUL QAYYOOMO WA ATOOBO ILLAIHE

It appears from the reports that the best prayer in this month is to seek forgiveness and seeking pardon seventy times during this month equals seeking pardon seventy thousand times in other months.

THIRD: He who gives charity in this month, event if it is half a date Allah forbids the fire of Hell to touch his body.

When asked about the excellence of fast in the month of Rajab, Imam Ja’far Sadiq (as) stated, “Why are you unmindful of the fasts of Sha’baan”. A person present there asked him of the excellence of fasting during Sha’baan. He replied, “By Allah, its reward is Heaven”. Asked what was the best form of prayer in the month, he named charity and seeking forgiveness from Allah. He said that if a person gives in charity during Sha’baan, Allah nourishes it as humans nourish the calf of a camel and it will meet the donor on the Day of Judgement in a state in which it would have grown to the size of the mountain of Uhod.

FOURTH: say during the whole of the month a thousand times, LA ILLAHA ILLALLAHO WA LA NA’ABUDO ILLA IYYAHO MUKHLESEENA LAHUDDEENA WA LAU KAREHAL MUSHREKOON

This recitation carried great rewards, including the reward for worship of a thousand years.

FIFTH: on each Thursday of this month, recite two rakaats and in each rakaat after the Chapter on Al-Hamd recite the Chapter on Ikhlas a hundred times and a hundred salawaat on completion of the two rakaats so that Allah may fulfill all his wishes, secular and spiritual. Keeping fast on Thursdays of the month also carried great significance. It has been reported that the heavens are decorated each Thursday in the month of Sha’baan and the angles pray to Allah to forgive all those who fast on that day and their prayers are accepted. It is stated in the reports of the narrations of the Holy prophet (saaw) that whoever fasts on Mondays and Thursdays of this month, Allah will fulfill twenty of his worldly wishes and twenty of his wishes of the Hereafter.

SIXTH: recite Salwaat many times: ALLAHOOMMA SALLE ALAA MOHAMMADIN WA AALE MOHAMMAD

SEVENTH: recite the following supplication daily at noon and on the even of the middle of the month as reported from Imam Zainul Abideen (as): http://www.duas.org/shaban1.htm

EIGHT: recite the following supplication reported by Ibn Khaalwiyyah that it was recited by Commander of Faithful and the Imams after him (as) during the month of Sha’baan.

This is one of the excellent supplications from the Imams (as) containing loft subject matters and should be recited with a cool mind.

THE FIRST EVE:

Numerous prayers have been reported in “IQBAL” including twelve rakaats with the recitation of the Chapter on Ikhlas eleven times after the recitation of the Chapter on Al-Hamd.

THE FIRST DAY:

It is a day of great excellence and it has been reported from Ja’far Sadiq (as) that whoever fasts on that day is assured of Heaven. Seyyid ibn Tawoos has reported from the Holy Messenger (saaw) that a person who fasts on the first three days of this month and on their eve recites two rakaats in each of which he recites after the Chapter on Al-Hamd, the Chapter on Ikhlas eleven times will be greatly rewarded.

In the commentary of the Eleventh Imam (as) great excellence has been reported from the month of Sha’baan and its first day and its many benefits. Thiqatul Islam Noori (May Allah brighten his grave) has translated the reported at the end of this work “KALEM-E-TAYYIB” but as the report is too long to be included here fully, a summary of it is set out:

On a first of Sha’baan Commander of Faithful (as) passed by a group of a people who were seated in a mosque discussing the subject of destiny. Their voices were raised as the arguments were heated and the contentions severe. Commander of Faithful (as) stopped and greeted them. They replied, rose in deference to him and requested him to join them. Without heeding their request, he addressed them, “O people, do not indulge in discussions not beneficial to you. Are you not aware that there are creatures of Allah who, though not dumb or incapacitated, are dumbfounded out of his fear? Whenever they think of the greatness of Allah, their tongues become tied and their hearts feeble, they lose their senses and become confounded by His glory, majesty and magnificence. When they recover from this state, they revert to Allah regarding themselves sinful, though they are distant from sin and error. They are not content with their ordinary labours of Allah nor do they regard their enormous deeds as plentiful, and constantly engage themselves in efforts for the pleasure of Allah. Whenever you see them in prayer, you will notice them fearful and anxious. How do you compare with them, you the beginners? Are you not aware that the wisest of men are the most quiet and the most ignorant are the most vocal? O fresh people, today is the first of the honoured Sha’baan. Allah has so named it as the good things (khayraat) are disbursed in this month.

Allah keeps open in this month the gates of His benefaction and has made available for you His palaces and benediction for little virtue from you. So purchase them. But the cursed devil (Iblis) has embellished for you his vices and evil and you have always wandered astray and towards rebellion associating with evil and turning away from virtue of which He has opened the gates for you. This is the first of Sha’baan and the branches of its benediction are prayers, fasting, charity, admonishing towards virtue and restraining from evil, honouring the parents, relatives and neighbours, settlement of disputes and charity to the needy and poor. However, you have imposed on yourselves the load you cannot carry of discussing destiny. Enquiry into matters that are in the hands of Allah is not permissible to everybody, for it can lead to being misguided. Beware, if you knew what Allah has in store for the obedient, you would not have been indulging in such discussions but would have been engrossed in the matters prescribed for today. “They asked, “O Commander of Faithful, what are the things Allah has kept in store this day for the obedient?” he narrated to them the episode of the army the Holy Messenger (saaw) had sent to fight the infidels. It was a dark night and when the infidels planned a night attach, the Muslims were all asleep except for Zaid bin Harith, Abdullah bin Rawaha, Qatadah bin No’man and Qays bin Asim Munqari. Each of them was engrossed in prayers and in recitation of the Holy Qur’an. The enemies shot arrows aimed at the Muslims. As it was pitch dark, the enemies could not see the Muslims to be frightened of its size and got so close to them that they were soon to destroy the Muslims. Suddenly such light beamed from the faces of these few individuals that the whole Muslim army became illuminated. This inspired the Muslims who unsheathed their swords and attacked the infidels killing them or wounding them and taking them prisoners. When they turned to the Holy Messenger (saaw) and narrated their encounter to him, he said that the prayers of the their brothers on the first eve of Sha’baan was the cause of the light which illuminated from their faces. Iblis spreads out his army round the earth urging them to make special efforts to attract the creatures of Allah towards them as Allah spreads His angels on this day round the world commanding them to look after His creatures well and urge them towards virtue and stating that because of them, the creatures will turn to virtue except for the disobedient and rebellious who would have united with the army of Iblis. On the first of Sha’baan Allah surely orders the Gates of Heaven to o9pen up and the “Tree of Tooba” to bring its branches closer to earth and at that time there is an announcement from Allah, “O creature of Allah, these are the branches of the “Tree of Tooba”, cling to them as they will lift you to Heaven and these are the branches of the “Tree of Zaqoom”, beware of them lest they lead you to Hell”. The Holy Messenger (saaw) said, “By the one who has appointed me to the Prophet hood, whoever adopts any virtue on this day will have clung to a branch of the branches of the “Tree of Tooba” which will take him to heaven and whoever adopts evil on this day will surely have clung to a branch of the branches of the “Tree of Zaqoom” which will take him to fire.

Whoever will recite optional prayers on the first of Sha’baan for the pleasure of Allah will have clung to one of its branches, whoever will keep fast on this day will surely have clung to one of its branches, whoever will reconcile between husband and wife or father and son or among relatives or neighbours or other people will surely have clung to one of the branches, whoever helps one in debt or reduces it has clung to one of the branches, whoever checks his accounts and discovers a debt due to him of which the lender has lost hope of repayment and he settles the debt, he will surely have clung to one of the branches, whoever stands surety for an orphan will surely have clung to one of the branches, whoever protects the dignity of a believer from the foolish has surely clung to one of the branches, whoever recites the Holy Qur’an or a portion of it has surely clung to one of the branches, whoever remembers Allah and counts His blessings and expresses his gratitude has surely clung to one of the branches, whoever visits a sick person has surely clung to one of the branches, whoever acts virtuously towards his parents or one of them has surely clung to one of the branches, whoever on this day pleases someone he had angered in the past has also surely clung to one of the branches, whoever joins in a funeral has surely clung to one of the branches, whoever on this day comforts a distressed person has surely clung to one of the branches and, likewise whoever does any good on this day has surely clung to one of the branches.

The Holy Messenger (saaw) said, “By the one who has appointed me to Prophet hood, whoever on this day indulges in the evil or sin will have surely clung to one of the branches of the “Tree of Zaqoom” which will pull him to the fire of Hell. By the one who has sent me as a Messenger, whoever becomes negligent with his obligatory prayers on this day will surely have clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever is approached by a weak or poor person of whose condition he is aware and is able to assist him without any harm to himself, and there is none other than him to help the poor, yet leaves him to collapse without holding his hand, then surely he has clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever, on receiving an apology from one who had wronged him, exacts from him punishment in excess of what is just for the wrong then surely he has clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever causes separation between husband and wife or parent and children or between brothers or brothers and sisters or relatives or neighbours or two friends or two sisters, he has surely clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever is aware of the hardship of a person, yet becomes hard on him and worsens his plight by anger, has surely also clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever is indebted but denies the debt and endeavours to invalidate it, has surely clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever molests an orphan, causes him trouble or destroys his property has clung to one of the branches of that tree.

Whoever transgresses on the reputation of a brother believer and causes people to dislike him, then has surely clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever sings in such a manner that people indulge in sins, has surely clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever sits and narrates his evil deeds and oppression during a war and takes pride in them, has surely clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever has a sick neighbour but does not visit him as he regards him lower than himself has clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever fails to join in the funeral of a neighbour only because he regarded him base, has surely clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever turns away from a distressed person and regarding him base oppresses him has surely clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever has been disowned (disinherited) by his parents or either of them, has also clung to one of the branches of that tree. Whoever has been disowned (disinherited) by his parents and despite being able to please them does not do so on this day, then he surely has clung to one of the branches of that tree and, likewise, whoever does any form of evil has surely clung to one of the branches of the “Tree of Zaqoom”. By the one who has sent me as a Messenger, the branches of the “Tree of Tooba” will elevate those who have clung to them towards Heaven.” At that time the Holy Messenger (saaw) raised his eyes for a few moments towards the sky and looked pleased and then lowered his sight to the earth but looked displeased and turning to his companions said, “By the one who has sent Muhammad as a Prophet, I have surely seen the “Tree of Tooba” raise itself and raise all those who had clung to it towards Heaven and saw some of those who had clung to one or more of its branches, according to the degree of their obedience. I surely saw Zayd bin Harith clinging to a number of the branches and the branches were elevating him to the highest place in Heaven. So I became pleased. Then I lowered my sight to the earth. By the one who has sent me as a Messenger, I then saw the “Tree of Zaqoom”. Its branches were lowering themselves towards Hell and all those who had clung to one or more of its branches as a result of their ill deeds. I surely saw some of the hypocrites clinging to a number of the branches which were carrying them to the lowest abyss in a hell. So I became displeased.”
